Cependant, la croissance démographique rapide et l’évolution des modes de consommation ont exercé une pression excessive sur nos ressources terrestres limitées. Cette pression a conduit, à son tour, à la dégradation des terres dans le monde entier. À l’échelle mondiale, trente pour cent de toutes les terres ont perdu leur vraie valeur en raison de leur dégradation. Comment pouvons-nous répondre à nos besoins les plus élémentaires – et encore moins à nos désirs – quand la quantité de terres saines et productives diminue si radicalement ?

Heureusement, grâce à de simples changements dans le comportement des consommateurs et des entreprises, et à l’adoption d’une planification plus efficace et de pratiques durables, il peut y avoir assez de ressources pour tous. Cela nous aidera à conserver et à gérer les terres en bon état. Cela nous aidera à restaurer les terres dégradées ; arrêter l’accaparement des terres ; lutter contre le changement climatique ; augmenter la production alimentaire et fournir de l’eau potable.
